I've just begun my second year of BSc Geography at Coventry University and loving it! (I chose Cov Uni because its a short bus ride from our flat, which is pretty handy, and its not bad for geography.) Loads of work, but really good fun. I might do a placement year in 2008/9- it depends on what I can find. Hopefully something hydrogeology related, which is what I want to do after uni. For about 3 years before uni, I worked as an Analytical Chemist at Severn Trent Laboratories in Coventry, where I work for the Quality department making Analytical Quality Check standards for the laboratories. Before I moved to Quality I worked in the sludge lab, analysing sludge from sewage works, which could be a bit smelly at first, but then it kills your sense of smell! I hadn't envisaged working in chemistry as it was my least favourite of the sciences at school, but I discovered that the processes at sewage works are actually quite interesting! But I also discovered that the career progression at STL is minimal, which along with the rubbish pay motivated me to go back to uni and finally get my degree! Before that I worked in call centres (inbound on the Orange helpdesk near Newcastle upon Tyne, and then telesales at CPP in Tamworth, Staffs). Helping customers at Orange was fun, whereas at CPP, cold-calling people to flog them things that I thought were a waste of money was most definately not! Other stuff about me:
